We have progressed.

As some of you hanging around the BBS may know, I have been doing some coding and in fact you could be playing this game tomorrow. But I still have no maps...

After various attempts at contacting the mappers of the past I've had no response at all and so right now this is where we stand:
We can wait for contact, get some nice looking maps (according to the screenshots I've seen) and really get this game rolling.
Or, if you reading this are an experienced and talented mapper with lots of motivation to greatly help this game get to where it should be, then please contact me directly as soon as you can (by clicking here).

But please, only those who know what they are doing apply. People that think they could help, to get the game out and to play it as fast as possible, but don't really have any idea what to do will just slow the process down.
Those that do know what they're doing, we're counting on you.

I'll be back as soon as there's some more news.
In the mean time join in with reviving the BBS!
A launch is near folks!

Waiting for a release?

Then you've waited long enough, well... almost >_<

I've decided to release what is currently available for YOU to play test.
All I need is to get my hands on the current maps that have been made and somewhere to host the game server.

As you may know, there has been hardly any progress for ages and no motivation. Hopefully this will change things.
It is still not of the standard I want for the planned alpha test (and so will be like a really basic chat game), but hopefully this will create motivation and we can reach that standard (and hopefully surpass it!) and update as you play!

I'll be back updating you as I go. In the mean time, here are some (slightly old but newer than the rest) screenshots you may or may not have seen:

Long time no see

I have for you a progress report and a little extra gift.

As you all may of noticed, it seems progress has once again come to a general standstill.
Many of you may know that this isn't something too strange and that it does happen, like it has in the past.
We just need to wait for able and motivated people to find us/continue working and so the most needed jobs can be fulfilled and we can continue, mainly in the form of releasing something you too can play and help us develop with your feedback.

Technically what is happening at the moment is over the last week or so we're getting more people interested in helping than usual and so maps (something very important right now) do seem to finally be underway again, but as I am not a mapper myself, I only know what the mappers have told me and so I can't really give you more details than that.
I honestly do not know, but if this continues well, progress may once again change and we could be continuing steady work.

Also, I am currently in Japan right now and so spending all day programming isn't how I'm seeing me spending my time, but seeing as the long awaited demo is so near, I may end up going a bit weird and programming what's needed every now and then so it can be launched (as long as the other necessities exist, such as maps and a server, both of which are coming into existence, but aren't firmly in place yet).

Finally, That GMTech interview that happened in February is out in the latest issue (Issue 12) of their magazine which you can download from here.

See you next time with some more updates on progress.

Progress!

One of our very newest mappers, Shadowflare has started to create us some very needed maps!

He put it's features to such good use that at first I couldn't quite believe that this was made in the map maker that I made!(And in case anyone's wondering, that's mist, not water, but is quite hard to get a great effect with the available tiles used. Seems like I'll be programming such weather features very soon!)

There should also be a couple of other people making maps right now too and so stay tuned for more previews!

One a side, note, somehow this game was shown as one of the top rated free games at the Great Games Experiment, but I really just see it as a fluke, seeing as how it's not been rated by many people.

GMTech comes to .hack//The World!

.hack//The World is a project starting to be noticed by many other websites, both fangame and .hack. As our popularity grows, we're open to publicity and new community members, and our open doors have let in a very welcome guest. GMTech Magazine, an online magazine dedicated to Game Maker-related topics, has found its way into our site. Tim Davies (known also as Timoi), the GMTech Researcher and GMTech Wiki Editor, has stumbled upon this project and has offered to conduct an interview with our lead programmer, hawthorneluke.

All I have to say is to please welcome him and look forward to reading the interview!

You can find out more about GMTech at their website: http://www.gamemakertech.info/

Happy New Year!

2008 has finally come! The .hack//The World project has been running for well over a year. We'd like to thank everyone of you who have been sticking with us through thick and thin; both team member and community member.

The "Project Information" page on this site has been updated, so check it out and enjoy the new layout and bits of new progress information.

Please be patient with us, as an alpha test is coming soon! Again, thanks.

Bulletcatcher and the Development Team - 1st January 2008

An In Game Peak And Merry Christmas!

As you can see it's still quite bland but that basically show's what's left to do.

Character sprite hair/faces and programming, GUI graphics and programming and maps.

The rate of progress is starting to pick up again so once again the alpha is getting nearer but considering that the rate has just started to pick up again and so there is no constant rate at the moment, an estimate as to when it'll be ready is impossible right now, but I'll keep you informed!
But like always we are always seeking new team members. (Interested? Take a look at "Open Positions" on the left)

Oh and hopefully the game will look better than just a half done, old GUI, single half done character standing still, alone, on a map created in a few minutes just for something to show off :P

A Notice About This Site And A Few Other Things On Progress

It seems that the hosting for this site has been/will be cancelled due to a few circumstances and so if you come here and see that the site is offline, this is why.
I have no idea when the site will go down (it may not even do so...) but either way this problem should be fixed quite soon (yet it is quite out of my hands).
So expect the worse, but whatever happens, we'll be back online without too long a delay.

Now for the progress update.
We've had a few people contact us about joining the team and some seem quite promising.
Everything's still being sorted out but it looks like we will have some mappers, GUI artist, testers and a server to host this game!
But like I said, everything's still being sorted out and I expect some people to fall off the face of the earth like always, but some other's look promising.
And so the currently we should move on with progress at a good rate starting from now really.
But that does not mean we don't need any more help, in fact it's quite the opposite. We still badly need your help but at least now we should be able to get going again in most, but not all areas.
Spriters are very badly needed.

For more information about joing the team or just helping us out, check out the "Open Positions" on the left.

So Where Is This Alpha Test?

As many of you already know, we are planning a simple alpha test to test the main basics of this whole game (more can be found out starting from the "Project Information" page).

We have gotten very close to completing everything needed for this alpha test, but then suddenly ran out of steam it would seem.
This is thanks to a few people getting very busy with school and what not, others that rely on their production then being left with less to do and then the general motivation of everyone dropping thanks to far less being produced.

This all happened when we just needed the other half that make up the character sprites to be made, the maps to be made and some extra bits of programming and tweaking needed.

Up until now, we've had a great spriter working really hard to make the required sprites, which I'd say are probably almost there for this alpha test, but the other stuff hasn't really progressed.

These extra things that need finishing really aren't difficult or anything, it's just that the people doing them need more time and motivation really.
But, if we had more talented people to help us out, especially in these areas (mapping and spriting) then not only will this alpha test be underway much sooner, but the rest of the game should be produced quicker and at a higher quality hopefully too.

And so this is our current status on the alpha test. If people do want to help us out and join the team, that'd be fantastic and you will not have to wait as long, but if not much in that sense happens, then the waiting may continue for a bit longer as we slowly but surely creep along.

Those interesting in helping in any way at all please take a look at the "Open Positions" page.

Email notifications for when new news articles are put up?

There is now a poll on the BBS to vote whether you want to be notified by email whenever a new news article, like this one, is put up on this site, so that you will always know as soon as possible whenever there's a new bit of news to check out.

You can find the poll here (or by clicking the headline text).

Website Content Increasing

Since it's launch, I've been adding more and more content to the site and so whatever pages were lacking in content may now have more or if not will do so in the near future while I continue to add information.
So make sure that you frequently visit pages you're interested in as you'll be quite likely to see new information appearing on them over time.
Seeing as I'm making small changes all the time, such things won't be put as a news headline, otherwise there'd be already pages of news.
So this is just to let you know that even though it may seem like nothing is changing, it is and will continue to do so untill I'm satisfied that we've got enough content on the site.

hawthorneluke - 4th December 2007

Website Is Up!

I've finally started to put content into the site Min's been making and so here it is.
Hopefully it should function as a place to easily find all the general information on this game and project in total.
We still need to add in as much content as we can for now and then just keep updating it, but there's a few things like the Media pages that Min needs to specifically sort out.

Also check out the "Open Positions" on the left to see what extra team members we need.

To get to the forums/BBS, just click "BBS" on the left (or a link at the very top, such as "BSS" or even the BBS half of the banner at the top).

Also, you can click the news headline (Website Is Up!) to go to the equivalent topic on the forums.
